Mission Statement: Hogs and kisses is an animal sanctuary. our mission is to create the best possible life for farm animals while inspiring compassion for all living beings. Here are some of the key programs we worked on last year: - Program 1: Animals- in addition to rescuing three large farm pigs and five rabbits from situations of abuse and neglect in 2021, hogs & kisses farm sanctuary continued rescued efforts and saved another two large farm pigs from slaughter in ct and gave sanctuary to a pair of abandoned piglets in va. 2022 was mainly focused on expanding living environments and providing quality care to rescued animals required us to build temporary quarantine with matching materials, increased vetting, new fencing partitions, extra feed and supplements, and an addition to the pig barn to accommodate more sleeping areas. in 2023, while creating normalcy for the twelve (12) animals in our care, we increased activity in the local community. hogs & kisses joined a community networking group for opportunities of educational outreach and held our largest annual event called the barnwarming. finishing the year deciding to rescue turkey as our next species at the sanctuary and began designs for their habitat. the main focus in 2024 was designing and building, with 90% volunteers, the turkey habitat, selecting our rescues and transporting them to our sanctuary. the process took an estimated nine (9) months to complete and then in october 2024, we welcomed two (2) broad-breasted turkeys from abandonment. our expansion of rescues to 14 animals, required that we recruit more volunteers as well as hire one (1) part-time employee to care for everyone properly. additionally the year had multiple unexpected health problems occur to a couple of our pigs, which consumed a great deal of our budget, since they had to be transported and boarded at an animal hospital and given very expensive medications (one pig on medication for life). - Program 2: Education and outreach-our mission is to create the best possible life for farm animals while inspiring compassion for all living beings. in 2022, we continued educational programs, such as visitor tours, volunteering, and a free video series on youtube called "beet around the barn," plus newly offered an online adopt a classroom series for elementary students and joined a community networking group to teach about animal welfare. in 2023, hogs & kisses held our highest attended annual event called the barnwarming. we were able to educate the local community on our mission, which is ultimately to educate the public on compassionate animal care for farm animals, the positive impacts of veganism on animals and the environment, and supporting local wildlife. in 2024, hogs & kisses continued our mission and was interviewed for a couple of podcasts to discuss animal welfare in sanctuaries. we attended multiple festivals to interact with our communities and educate on our mission. we collaborated with our local college clubs at the university of virginia, who brought students wanting to learn how to advocate for animals and lend a helping hand volunteering.
