As UVA’s central volunteer hub, Madison House connects over 1,600 students each year with long-term service opportunities in Charlottesville. Volunteer placements are available with local partner organizations, including schools, hospitals, food pantries, housing improvement programs, community gardens, and animal welfare organizations. Programs are student-led and community-focused, providing leadership opportunities and deep connections with peers and area nonprofits.

Through Madison House you can engage in meaningful volunteer initiatives and learning opportunities that address critical needs in the community, while also promoting your personal growth and leadership development.
Are you ready to make a positive impact in our community? Here are the steps to apply as a volunteer at Madison House:
1) Create a GivePulse account and join the Madison House page. (Returning volunteers, if you already have a GivePulse profile, you do not need to complete this step - go to Step 2)
2) Complete a placement request form. September 4, 2026, is the priority placement request deadline and September 11, 2026, is the general request deadline. You will hear back from student program leaders within a week of the submission deadlines regarding your placement status.
Please note that there may be additional placement requirements for individual programs.
